DSS exists
to serve all people of Pender County. Through a renewed commitment to
helping people avoid getting trapped into a cycle of dependency, DSS enhances
the quality of life for citizens through programs designed to help the
vulnerable, children, the aged, the disadvantaged, the sick, and the poverty
stricken. Programs of public assistance and social services enable individuals
and families to become self-supporting, self-sufficient, to avoid institutional
care, to prevent or correct abuse, neglect, and exploitation; and to secure
institutional care when appropriate.
